What Is Acai Berry Oil?

Acai berry oil is derived from the fruit of Euterpe oleracea, a palm species native to South America. The acai fruit is round, reddish-purple, and approximately 1–2 cm in diameter. Its seeds account for around 80% of the fruit.

Acai is widely known as a dark-purple berry with a flavour often described as a combination of berry and chocolate. A variety of acai-derived products are available, including juices, powders, and extracts.

Cosmetic Uses

In cosmetic formulations, acai berry oil is primarily used as a skin-conditioning and occlusive ingredient. As an occlusive, it can contribute to the formation of a protective layer on the skin surface, helping to reduce moisture loss.

Antioxidant Properties

Research on acai fruit has focused particularly on its antioxidant properties. In vitro studies have also investigated antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activity, which may be associated with its antioxidant constituents.
